The Cartoon Cabaret

The Cartoon Cabaret was a 10,000 square foot restaurant and retail store that Tracy and I opened in August of 2001. It had licensed product from Disney, Nickelodeon, Warner Bros., Hanna Barbara, and others. It had the Cupcake Cafe with fresh baked goods, pizza, salads, burgers and ice cream. It also had video games and 200,000 comic books. We had personal appearances by Myron Waldeman (Popeye, Superman, Betty Boop) and Nancy Cartwright (Bart Simpson) in our Animation Art Gallery and had a special party room for Birthday parties and a stage for kids karaoke. The opening three weeks we were averaging $18,000.00 per day. Then September 11, 2001 happened. I remember coming in to work as I usually did at 6:00 am, getting ready to open at 10:00 am when my wife called me on the phone and said to turn on the T.V. We had a large video wall and I turned it on just in time to see the second plane hit the towers. Not a single person came in that day and over the next month we were averaging $250.00 per day. Over the next six months 70% of all restaurants in Medina closed, including many name franchises, and after going through our savings, we were forced to close also.
The terrorist had struck in the middle of Ohio.
